Their research involved the monitoring of 784 men over the age of 65 and suggested that they only spent 4% of their time in a deep sleep, compared to an average person which measured at 15%. A separate US study showed that woman spent 7% more time in a deep sleep than men.
However, these findings are completely contradictory to a survey conducted by the British Lung Foundation which proposed that it was in fact women who were the worst sleepers. So although it may not be clear who the better sleepers are, one thing is for sure and that is the importance of sleep.
